|Hill Wine Company’s fruit is sourced from the famed Napa Valley and its varied climates and terroir. Our farming techniques work in unison with each vineyard to capture the distinct characteristics of the terroir in our fruit. The end result is wine that captures the best the entire Napa Valley has to offer. Below are the locations of our vineyards and why each is special.
ATLAS PEAK AVAWe choose this vineyard to utilize the slow growing season of the appellation’s micro-climate, which allows for intense flavor formation in our Cabernet Sauvignon. The volcanic soils are well drained allowing enough stress to bring out the very best these vines have to offer.
LOS CARNEROS AVAThe cool climate of the Carneros region makes it the ideal location in the Napa Valley to grow Pinot Noir. The Pinot Noir benefits directly from the influence of the nearby bay, which provides cool breezes during bright sunny days to ensure even ripening and cooler evening fogs that allow for extended hang time that produces rich flavors and lively acidity in the finished wines.
OAK KNOLL DISTRICT OF NAPA VALLEY AVAThe Oak Knoll district is ideally placed between the cooler Los
Carneros appellation to the south and warmer appellations in the north. Early morning fog, cool nights, and moderate temperatures allow for a long growing season for our Cabernet Franc and Merlot. This additional ripening time allows our fruit the time needed to fully develop and produce the elegantly smooth flavors and beautiful color that our wines present.
COOMBSVILLE AVACoombsville is located in the foothills of the Vascas Range of the Napa Valley. Warmer days and heavy gravel rock soils make this an ideal place for our Cabernet Sauvignon. The gravel allows for smaller berries which give a deeper color and more concentrated flavor profile.
HOWELL MOUNTAIN AVAOur vineyard is located high atop the 2200 foot elevation in beautiful low fertile volcanic soils. This makes small clusters with intense flavored grapes. With the warmer afternoons this allows for optimal hang time and the perfect ripening.
RUTHERFORD AVARutherford is famous for its “Dust” or the soil that makes up the alluvial fan that produces some of the best Cabernet Sauvignon in the valley. We source Cabernet Sauvignon from our Rutherford Vineyard which is a deep rich flavored Cabernet Sauvignon.
STAGS LEAP DISTRICT AVAWe grow our Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon in the storied Stags Leap District. Here, the gravely and coarse terroir doesn’t retain much water. Proper leaf removal and limited watering result in wines of great intensity and flavor.
YOUNTVILLE AVAPlanted over 20 years ago our Yountville Sauvignon Blanc features incredible tropical flavors that we feel are the best you can find. Our old vine Merlot from this region produces wines that are rich and subtle. Our Cabernet Sauvignon sits close to the river in a depression we call the river block producing intensely flavored fruit with low yields and high quality. Our Yountville Chardonnay is crisp with mild butter character.
WILD HORSE VALLEY AVAWild Horse Valley overlooks the Napa and Solano counties form high atop 1500 foot elevation. The soils are red volcanic soils which allow little water retention. We grow beautiful Pinot Noir and Chardonnay allowing for rich balnced flavors due to the warm days and foggy cool nights.
NAPA VALLEY AVAWe have vineyards in two distinct areas. The majority of our Cabernet Sauvignon is grown at the bottom of Atlas peak and moves into Coombsville. This area is full of volcanic soils and allows great drainage to the vines. Here we grow small deep colored and great flavored Cabernet Sauvignon. The remainder of our blending grapes and Pinot Noir is grown in Jamieson Canyon of Napa Valley. This is a very windy area allowing vines to dry out and soils to release intense flavors and provide great grapes.
